ResCalc is a Resource Calculator in Excel developed without macros or visual basic. It can be used to calculate the resources needed to service demand for a team or department based on their demand and the processes in place to service that demand. These can then be compared to actual and budgeted resource to see where the shortfalls and surpluses are.
Using the software to calculate resource requirements is straight forward:
- Define the work streams and their annual demand
- Define your resource types and your budgeted, actual and deployable resource numbers along with employment costs
- Define the activities undertaken for each work stream, which resource type does them and how long they take
- Define the different resource abstractions types and enter abstraction rates for each of resource type
- The software will then calculate the resources required for each resource type
ResCalc outputs are available in both graphical and tabular format. They provide aggregate results and allow drill-down into the detail so that you can see where resources spend most of their time, for example.
ResCalc provides activity-based costs for each process split by resource type
You can use the software to evaluate different process designs and operating models. ResCalc will quantify the effect of proposed changes on the resource requirements and hence cost. A comparison with required resource levels will enable you to focus on what resource gaps you need to close.
People can’t work at 100% utilisation all of the time – ResCalc allows you to enter a target utilisation and calculates the requirement accordingly. You can also see how different workstreams contribute to the overall resource requirement
Licence Options
Two licence options are available for ResCalc:
- Personal Licence – for use by the named user only
- Site licence – for use by multiple users based at the named site
Licences are valid for one year from date of delivery after which they can be renewed. They are provided subject to PL Insights Limited’s standard terms and conditions.
The designated user, organisation / site will be finalised with you prior to shipment in order to generate a unique licence code. Delivery is by email to your requested email address
